Ayurvedic Smoothie Bowl

The ayurvedic spices not only add to this amazingly nutritive breakfast, they also work to increase basal metabolic rate, heating the body from the inside out and encouraging fat burn. Carrots are best known for their high content antioxidant beta-carotene, fighting free radical damage and promoting good vision and a healthy heart. This brekky option has my vote for delaying the signs of ageing too! 

Ingredients

2 large carrots, peeled and chopped
1 small banana, chopped
¼ cup walnuts
¼ cup rolled oats (optional, can use quinoa flakes for a gluten-free version and semolina for a traditional version)
½ tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp turmeric
½ tsp ground ginger
½ tsp ground cloves
1 tbsp almond butter
350ml almond milk
1 tbsp coconut yoghurt or kefir
Ice cubes (optional)

Method

  1. Blend all ingredients in high-speed blender until well combined, thick and creamy. (N.B. if you have an older blender or weak blades you may need to steam the carrots first).
  2. Transfer to bowl and top with chopped nuts, shredded coconut, cacao nibs, fruit etc. Or, add a little water for desired consistency and have it like a drink.
